How GenCo Works:

NIPSCO Generation LLC ("GenCo") is a subsidiary of NiSource Inc. and a sister company to Northern Indiana Public Service Company LLC (“NIPSCO”). Its operations are regulated by the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission. By operating as a standalone entity, GenCo isolates the costs and risks to construct new generation facilities for new data center growth in the NIPSCO service territory.

Separating Fact from Fiction

Myth

Truth

"GenCo will raise my rates."

GenCo will not raise your rates. GenCo is designed to create savings for NIPSCO electric customers. How? Data centers pay for their own infrastructure.

"GenCo isn’t regulated."

GenCo is regulated by the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC). Contracts with megaload customers must be approved by the IURC to ensure data centers pay for their own costs.

"This project only benefits big tech."

GenCo is designed to benefit and protect NIPSCO electric customers. It will create over $1 billion in savings for existing customers and thousands of local jobs.

"Data centers will strain the grid."

These projects will strengthen, not strain, the grid. GenCo builds new generation and transmission capacity to meet demand, strengthening the reliability of the entire grid.

"New infrastructure will burden the community and environment."

We carefully select project sites to minimize impact to the community and surrounding spaces and are committed to complying with environmental requirements.
